Hamburg – Seaport with Foresight – Hamburg has a population of 1.8 million, which increases to 5 million when metropolitan areas are included. The Elbe River secures access to the North Sea about 10 km downstream. This allows container ships to deliver goods throughout the midland quickly and at low costs. These goods can then continue to be transported to all parts of Europe by train, truck or inland waterways. After Germany’s reunification in 1990, Hamburg got it’s hinterland back and has once again become Germany’s gateway to the world. The large-scale projects “Hafencity“, “Jump over the Elbe“ and “New Middle Altona“ bring the future into sight. The ambitious housing construction project to build 70,000 units by 2023 and the renewable energy transition are the newest market drivers. The main focus is on economic clusters. These include ports, chemistry/life science, nutrition, logistics, media/IT and creative as well as energy industry.
