Hamburg Harbor City
Across the historical warehouse district, the maritime showcase district of Hamburg was developed. Large companies like Spiegel and Unilever, but also the environmental organization Greenpeace, have settled in the area, focusing on sustainable, energetic standards during the construction of their buildings.
A model in the old Boiler House presents the past construction phases, the future building plans and the diverse economic relationships of the Harbor City and Hamburg. At the forefront is the Elbe Philharmnonic Hall, which was built by the Basel architecture studio Herzog & de Meruon upon what was previously a cocoa, tea and tobacco warehouse.
The large publishing house Gruner + Jahr, the main church St. Michaelis and the first “Floating Home” are easily accessible. A large outdoor staircase, designed by architect Zaha Hadid, invites one to linger.
