Freiburg’s sustainable districts

For decades Freiburg has continued to grow and expand into available areas despite being limited by nature and land conservation regulations. City planning in Freiburg is concerned with the most effective use of former industrial or military areas rather than starting new construction projects. Rieselfeld is the largest model city district with approximately 10,000 residents. Amongst professionals the Vauban district is known worldwide for its innovative traffic concept, the solar settlement, and the varied group construction architecture. The conversion of roughly 40ha of former freight railway areas and the new district Gutleutmatten have recently been implemented. The future climate-neutral neighbourhood, Dietenbach, is already planned and will soon begin construction. It should accommodate 15,000 residents.

We will lead you through the new city districts with our detailed knowledge of them, illuminating all their important aspects, including planning, community citizenship, architecture, energy usage, mobility, green planning and social living. We will gladly set up meetings for you with architects or residents.

You can find a model program here: Program example for Freiburg’s new district
