Architecture in Barcelona from the Romans to the Present
The remains of a temple, the Roman walls, both of which were founded by the Roman emperor Augustus, as well as the most important Gothic quarter in Europe can be visited today. Barcelona’s international reputation as an architectural mecca dates back to the 19th century. It is based on the works of Antonio Gaudi, such as the Sagrada Familia, Casa Battlo and Parque Güell. After Franco’s dictatorship, creativity again returned to architecture and created a large number of spectacular buildings that shape Barcelona today:
• Torres Porta Fira by Toyo Ito
• Torre Agbar by Jean Nouvel
• Natural History Museum by Herzog & de Meuron
• Gas Natural Tower by Miralles & Tagliabue
• Montjuic TV tower by Santiago Calatrava
• The fish made of gold by Frank Gehry
• Diagonal ZeroZero from Enric Massip-Bosch
